Now Sleeps The Crimson Petal

May the charming words of this lovely poem
inspire you today.

--Description: 19th C, Tennyson A., Love, Sleep--

Now sleeps the crimson petal, now the white;
Nor waves the cypress in the palace walk;
Nor winks the gold fin in the porphyry font;
The firefly wakens, waken thou with me.

Now droops the milk-white peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

Now lies the Earth all Danae to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts, in me.

Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake.
So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

Alfred Lord Tennyson

--Did You Know: Tennyson was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom and remains one of the most popular poets in the English language.
Tennyson excelled at penning short lyrics.

--Word of the Day: bonhomie \bah-nuh-MEE\ , noun:
Meaning: Good nature; pleasant and easy manner.
Example: That bonhomie which won the hearts of all who knew him.
(Washington Irving, Oliver Goldsmith)

--Quote of the Day: Sleep is still most perfect when it is shared with a beloved. The warmth, the security and peace of soul, the utter comfort from the touch of the other, knits the sleep, so that it takes the body and soul completely in its healing.
(D. H. (David Herbert) Lawrence)

Thank you. I love the comparisons to the flowers and nature, and the lovers folding into each other at the end.
